The Bird Songs of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East
819 Species
19:20 Hours running time
2817 Recordings
Never before the bird voices of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East were presented in such quality and completeness. Species are listed systematically according to taxonomical standards and can thus be easily compared. As a novelty and practical advantage, songs and calls of one species are arranged consecutively however on separate tracks, so that they can be chosen independently. The PDF-booklets provides English, French and German explanations about the sound recordings. Using a PC or MP3-player, these informations turn up on the screen while playing.

Review:
"My copy of '..Bird Songs..' arived promptly from Ample. I have spent some time with the discs and found them to be well presented and easy to use. The indexes are in print in the package and in Acrobat format on the discs. The indexes are listed both alphabetically and taxonomically on the discs and alphabetically in the book. The call and song files (MP3's) are sorted into folders according to taxonomic classification which makes them easier to locate when searching for a particular species.
"The recordings I sampled are clear and crisp but not artifictially cleaned. While not many of us have MP3 CD players in the car these discs can be used with most home DVD players and the recordings can be copied to portable MP3 players to be played through headphones or a stereo.
"The only negative I found was that there is no commentary on the recordings. Why is this a negative? If I was to listen to the recordings as a means of learning the calls and songs I would need the book to follow along. I could not do this while walking or driving! I guess the bird names three languages and latin would be too cumbersome to be useful to most.
"In all the discs are well worthwhile."
